Moin alles!
It has been up for sometime, but I finally thought to tell the list about it, the genweb site for Jones County, Iowa has gone to the great trouble of transcribing the 1925 off year Iowa Census, as far as census go, it is chuck full of information. Each person is identified along with their father and mother, if the parents are still alive, their ages. Usually the mother's name is listed by her maiden name if known so you can extract lots of leads from this searchable data base. By 1925, Jones county had a rather large contingent of Ostfrisian folk, we probably have the largest collection of "Dirks" and variant spellings in the whole of the United States even today. The townships which could yield the most Ostfriesian people are Scotch Grove, Wayne, and Castle Grove. Checking out the towns are also a good idea because their are many old farmers who retired to town. This census was done through out Iowa and is available for other counties as well, but through t!
he State Historical Society and probably through the Mormon Church as well. A earlier companion census for Iowa was done in 1915 but doesn't list all the information the 1925 census does. Hope this helps some of you folks looking for Iowa connections! By the way, these transcriptions were done by hand so the spellings maybe odd in some respects or even incorrect all together, but it is worth a look if you have Iowa people that are "lost" to you.
