Hello Garth and all other listers:
Great to see some activity on this list and maybe we can solve a few more
"strays".
My to be young again - tell young Megan that the "characters", etc. in a
family tree are usually the most interesting. We have to take bad apples
with the good - ha! ha!
When I lived in Ottawa (1991 - 2000), two Stewart boys (Brent & Neil) who
lived on Calumet Island, were charged with killing their father. They
were the sons of Barbara Ostrom & Lindsay Stewart. She had at least one
brother Brian Ostrom. There was some dispute in the family about gold in
the Harry Ostrom mine that caused the killing. I must re-read the story to
try and figure out a descendancy chart. One son Neil was convicted and is
serving life - not a great Ostrom story!
I tried to find a listing for Sprague resources on Google to see if that
cemetery is indexed but only found that Steinbach would come into the
picture and nothing on Sprague. I can't seem to find a place on the map
either, so am assuming that it is only a cemetery in that area and not a
town. That would be super if you could note the information on all of the
Ostroms/Ostrums there. I have lots of unconnected names to fit into the
Ostrom family.
The last e-mail I had from Kelly Harrison (2006), she said that she had
moved to Stirling and her email was . She
certainly has done the most work on Drick and can recite that
information. While living in Ottawa, I observed a number of Ostroms on the
Quebec side of the river and paid a visit to the Dunraven cemetery, Ile de
Calumet, near Bryson, QC. That small cemetery is half full of Ostroms and
their descendants - all belonging to this line. I took pictures of the
tombstones and notations.
Here is a brief line that includes Drick:
