I'm searching for the family of an old buffalo hunter - Willis Crawford - who
was from Benton County, Arkansas. His name and some of his hunting exploits
will appear in a book I am co-authoring titled Encyclopedia of Buffalo
Hunters and Skinners - and will cover the period of 1870-1885.
Crawford was one the hunting partner of John R. Cook in West Texas. The
nearest community was Fort Griffin, from which several hundred hunters
supplied themselves. Crawford and Cook were members of a party of hunters who
battled a mixed band of Comanche and Apache Indians in March 1877, after
which Willis Crawford left the buffalo range headed back to "see my old mom
back in Benton County, Arkansas, before she dies."
Can anyone help me locate Crawford's descendents, or more particularly, a
photograph of this man?
Thanks for anything you can do to help with this project.
