Hi Pat,
I feel sorry for you because my great-grandparents are also buried in
Mt. Vernon and one gets the run around.
There was a very nice man from either North or South Carolina who saw
my plea on the web and contacted me by e-mail. He said he was going to
Mt. Vernon and if he found my grandparents he would take pictures. Well
he found them, and took pictures, one of the stones was off its base
which I hope to remedy some day, you can't imagine how happy I was. Her
did this out of kindness in his heart, would not accept reimbursement.
After many phone calls to Mt. Vernon, this gentleman was left out in the
cold. The owner was supposed to meet him there that day but did not show
up. He searched and searched and there were no stones for his ancestors
where they were supposed to be and no explanation. Some of the stories
of Mt. Vernon have been horrendous.
My problem is I had computer trouble and lost everything before I could
print it out. Also lost e-mail addresses and do not have the gentleman's
address that helped me. He offered to mail hard copy pictures to me if
I sent my snail mail address and now I can't even do that. I wish you
all the luck in the world and maybe the good samaritan that helped me
will help you. Lets hope he still is on this list.

It took 10 minuets for the gentlemen to get the spelling of my street MELISSA right. Then after we got through writing down the names of my grandmother ( her name FLORENCE was a real challenge too) and her parents he said the owner of the cemetery charged 45 dollars for the 1st 2 names and 10 dollars for each additional name after that.
