Civil War Ancestors

1. Brown, William D. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Private. Born and raised in Cambria County, Pa. My great great grandfather.

Enrolled on February 19, 1864 at Hemlock (Lilly) Pennsylvania. He mustered
in as a private on February 23, 1864 and mustered out on August 30, 1865.
He was 26 years old at the age of enrollment. He had light hair, a florid
complexion, hazel eyes and stood 57. He was employed as a laborer in
Hemlock, Pa.
Died in 1910. Buried in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Summit, Cresson, Pa. On
his tombstone reads: 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry.

2. Brown, George. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Private, Nephew of my great great grandfather, William Brown, [above].
Born and raised in Lilly, Pa.

George Brown enrolled as soon as he turned 18 in February 11, 1864 at
Hemlock, Pa. His father had already died in the Civil War at Gettysburg on
July 2, 1863. George mustered in as a private on March 4, 1864. He had a
dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair and lived in Hemlock, Pa. He
worked as a farmer before his enlistment. Bates lists his death as
occurring in Andersonville Prison in Georgia on September 11, 1864. The
Andersonville Prison profile lists Georges date of death as occurring on
September 15, 1864. Death was the result of the disease: scorbutus. He is
buried at Andersonville National Cemetery, grave number 8794.


3. Brown, John. 115th Regiment, Company D, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Sergeant. Father of George Brown [above]. Brother of William Brown [listed
above]

Enrolled on May 30, 1862 at Ebensburg, Pennsylvania in the 115th Regt,
Company D, Infantry. Mustered in as a Sgt., on June 28, 1862 at 37 years of
age.

John Brown was killed in the fierce fighting at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on
July 2, 1863.

Buried in the Gettysburg National Cemetery.




4. Kline, Michael A. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Sergeant. Second husband of my great great great grandmother.
Immigrated from Alsace-France.

Killed at Cold Harbor, Virginia, on June 3, 1864.



5. McAtamney, Bernard. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Corporal, promoted from Private. Immigrated from County Londonderry,
Ireland with his family on May 11, 1848. He was a brother of my great
grandfather, John.


Enrolled August, 1861 in Cambria County and mustered in October 30, 1861 as
a Private in the 55th Regt, Company A, Infantry. He was 18 years old at the
time of enrollment. He had a fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and
stood 58. He worked as a miner in Cambria County. He was promoted to
Corporal, date unknown. He was wounded at Drurys Bluff, Virginia on May
16, 1864 and taken prisoner at Libby Prison were he died from his wounds on
May 31, 1864.

Burial site is unknown.



6. McAtamney, Francis. [Frank] Enrolled 28th Pa Infantry Philadelphia
then transferred to Knaps Light Artillery Battery, Philadelphia and then
enrolled in the 6th US Regular Army, Calvary, at Knoxville, Maryland in
October 1862. Immigrated from Ireland with his family in 1848. Brother of
Bernard McAtamney [above] and my great great grandfather, John.

Unknown when and where he was killed during the civil war. The pension
papers of his brother, Bernard, state that the War department had notified
the McAtamney family that Francis was killed by gunshot but no one was able
to recall the date of the notification or the place of death.




7. McAtamney, Hugh. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Private.Immigrated from Ireland with his family on May 11, 1848. Brother of
Bernard and Francis [listed above] and my great grandfather, John.

Enrolled on September 37, 1861 at Hemlock, Pa. Mustered in on the same day
as his brother, Bernard, October 30, 1861 as a private. He was 22 years old
at the time of his enrollment. He had sandy hair, brown eyes, dark hair and
stood 59. He worked as a laborer in the coal mine in Cambria County prior
to his enlistment.

Private Hugh McAtamney was wounded and killed by gunshot in the Expedition
to Pocotaligo, South Carolina on October 22, 1862.

Burial place unknown.



8. McQuillen, John. 5th West Virginia Calvary, Company F, Private.
Immigrated from Ireland
Was the husband of Sarah McAtamney, sister to the three McAtamney brothers
listed above. Irish immigrant.

John enrolled at Wheeling West Virginia at age 28 on June 24, 1861.
Mustered out upon the expiration of his term on June 30, 1864.

Died in Cresson, Pa., at age 94 in 1924.


9. Parker, David M. 55th Regiment, Company A, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Private. Brother of my great great grandmother.

Enrolled in the 55th Regt, Company A, Infantry. Mustered in as a private on
Feb 23, 1864. Age was 19. He had a dark complexion, blue eyes, light hair
and stood 511. He worked as a laborer before he enlisted. He was wounded
in the battle of Drurys Bluff, along with Corporal Bernard McAtamney and
his cousin, George Brown on May 16, 1864.

Died July 2, 1864, of wounds received at Drury's Bluff, Va., May 16, 1864;
buried at Hampton, Va.



10. Powers, Patrick. 51st Regiment, Company G, Infantry, Pennsylvania
Volunteers
Private. Immigrated from Ireland. Husband of Margaret McAtamney, sister of
the three McAtamney men listed above.

Served with the 51st Regt, Company G, Infantry; mustered in on October 16,
1861 at Harrisburg, Pa. Was age 21 at age of enrollment; had black hair,
fair complexion and blue eyes. Worked as a stonemason in Bellefonte, Center
County, Pa, before enlisting.

Discharged on Surgeon's Certificate, Apr. 24, 1864; Vet

Died in Pittsburgh, between April 1910 and April 1911. Burial site unknown.



11. Joseph Delozier Pvt., Co. D, 184th Regt. PA, Inf. Was the first
husband of the woman [a great great aunt] who adopted my great grandmother.
Married her in April 1864.
Enrolled age 22, on May 12, 1864.
Captured by Confederates June 22, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia
Prisoner at Richmond, Virginia then sent to Lynchburg, Virginia.
Prisioner exchanged at Savannah, Georgia, Nov. 20, 1864

Joseph died at Patterson Park Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland on Dec. 19, 1864
of chronic diarrhea.

Medical information from U.S. Army General Hospital.

Buried at Souden Park Cemetery in Maryland.
