Hi Kathy,

I too am searching for Rosses and the Ross-Steele connection rang a bell
with me. I did a 'google' search and found the following person who has at
least one Ross-Steele connection in this time frame. You may wish to write
to them and inquire, if you haven't found them already. Their e-mail is

Here's a posting from the Cumberland Co. website regarding one of their
lines:

"
Date: 29 Aug 1997 From: tshu Searching: ROSS
I am looking for anyone related to a WILLIAM ROSS, who died in Cumberland
County, or his sons or daughters. According to his will dated Sept 28, 1765
and proved November 9, 1765, he had two sons James (est. from will b 1745 -
1753) and William (Est 1755) Two daughters, and a Son-In-Law. In 1775 James,
his wife Jean Steele and William and his wife Sarah lived in Greenwood Twp.
"

It's been my experience that those with a middle name of Ross during this
time frame usually had some kind of family connection to the name, however
far removed.

And just yesterday, I found the following site regarding the Morgans and the
Boones: http://booneinfo.com/scroggin/table.htm

Good luck in your research - I am desperately seeking a James Ross (born ca
1740's) who married a Ruth Robinson from Berks Co. He appears out of thin
air - must have missed the mother ship back to his home planet :)

: Hi, folks,
: I've been "here" for a couple of weeks. Several of the folks in my files
: were in Old Chester for awhile before moving on. I am following the
: families of Squire & Sarah Morgan Boone and Morgan & Martha Strode
: Bryan. (Squire & Sarah's daughter m. Morgan & Martha's son)
<snip>
: I am also searching for a brick wall family: the family of John Steele
: & Eleanor Unknown. They had moved to northern Kentucky by the late
: 1790's / early 1800, and it's been suggested to me that I look here for
: them - their "origins". John & Eleanor's oldest child was Mary, b.
: 1777, which indicates a birth year for John before 1760. John died in
: 1823, in Kentucky. John & Eleanor's only son was Robert A.
:
: John & Eleanor's children gave several of their children a middle name
: of Ross, so of course I wonder if that was Eleanor's maiden name.
