'Hi, I'm looking for a John Davison in the 1700 -1720's time frame."...

Do you mean that he was born in this timeframe, 1700-1720, or that we
should look for him as an adult then? Makes a big difference. However,
there was little for the name, Davison, at any time.....I found a John
Daveson signed, in 1728, a petition concerning the division of Caln into
East and West Caln....and the 1765 Chester Archives indicate that there were
still Davisons in the West Caln area ; Alexander, Phineas and William....no
John.
Many Welsh settlers in Chester were named David, Davis, Davies, etc, and
the names are used almost interchangably...so, keep the same thing in mind
when researching the name Davidson/Davison/Davisson/Daveson, etc.
There are no area wills mentioning the name John with any of the above
surname spellings from 1683 through 1840.
