Are these houses privately owned? Unfortunately it's too late
to encourage you to knock on the door and introduce yourself as someone
whose family has ties to the homes. I've had such fabulous luck doing this,
and always hope others will give it a try, too. I explain who I am, why I'm
interested and ask VERY politely if I may take pictures of the outside of
the house........(it's never failed me yet, and I've always been invited
inside, too...WHAT a thrill.)
Most buildings that are on an Historical Register will have information
on them wherever they are registered.....county? state? natl? wherever. So,
I'd try this avenue. Did you ask about them when you were at the CCHS?
They'd probably be able to help.
When I was in Fallowfield, looking for the graves of my 4 times
great-grandparents in the Meeting House Cemetery, I discovered that there is
a building, next to the Meeting house that is the Fallowfield Historical Soc
(that is, I believe, the name)...the address would be Ercildoun, Pa 19320.
They were not open at the time I was there, but I asked in a gift shop
across the street and they gave me the name of a local lady who is active in
genealogy and history of the area. Why don't you write to the HIst. Soc, at
the above address and see if you can raise anyone to help? While there I
phoned the woman & she met me at the Hist. Soc. and allowed me to "go
through" what they had there. Also, she was very knowledgeable about the
area, knew where my 4great grandparents had lived, and gave me directions to
the house. Later, she sent me paperwork on the land and was a BIG help!
Believe me, I made a nice contribution to the organization! When you're,
physically, in the area it's important to try EVERYTHING! You just never
know what will pan out or what help you'll find in unexpected places! That's
part of the fun, I think.
I'm sure those on the list with deed/land info. will gladly look up for
you what they can......can you furnish some dates, or approximate
timeframes?
The only John Powell I could find in the War of 1812 was a pvt. in the
co. of Capt. Wm. Stuart, 1st co Light Infantry, 5th Batt., 1st Brigade,
mustered at Camp Springfield 11-11-1814.

" There are 2 Powell homes that are historical landmarks in E. Fallowfield.
One is where my dad was born & raised. I believe it is the one on duPont
Road and in the 1970's was purchased by the King's Ranch or so I am told.
The other was the John Powell home ~ I am told he was a "Capt" in the
service & fought in the War of 1812."
