Hello Everyone,
I am new to this list and have early Simpsons in this county. I hope the following information will help some of you. Also, I am trying to put together my line of Simpsons and believe they were in this county very early.
Here is the will of Allen Simson/Simpson of Londonderry Twsp. Chester Co.,PA; Yeoman ( means a gentleman farmer)
January 22, 1754 Probated September 2, 1756 D.54
Provides for wife, Margaret. To son, David all my lands. To sons John, William, James, Robert and daughter Cataren Simson, 5 shillings each.
To grandchildren, Allen and Ellis Simson, 5 pounds each.
Executor: Son, David Simson
Overseers: Friends, Joseph Smith and John Simson
Witnesses: Archibald McDowell, James Simson, William Little

Later on, I found this Will in Oxford Twsp. for John Simpson.
May 7, 1760 Probated June 13, 1760
Provides for wife (not named). To sons, James and Allen all real estate paying legacies of 40 pounds
each; to my other children as they come of age. (these are also not named).
Executors: Friend, David Ramsey and son, James Simpson.
Witnesses: John Hayes, Martha Russell and William Boyd

I believe this John Simpson must be the son who was named in Allen Simpson's will above. But I'm wondering why he died at apparently a young age? Does anyone know if he was in the French and Indian war and was wounded and died later? Just a guess here.

The spelling of "Simson" was the County Clerk's way of spelling the name. Apparently, in Scotland, the name was spelled without the intrusive "P".

The reason I know these Simpsons are related in the fact that John has named one of his sons "Allen." This is rather an unusual name for the Simpsons, so it really does help in identifying this particular family line.
If anyone has information on this family, I would be most grateful to hear, also, I will gladly share information on this family as I believe that Allen Simson/Simpson is my 4th great grandfather.
Sincerely,
Bonnie Simpson Valko
