Are you sure about your dates and places? There was no Colony of
Pennsylvania in 1660, and the Quakers didn't start arriving till about
1682....so, 1660
was mighty early. The settlement there before the Quakers were the Swedes,
in their settlement Of New Sweden, on the Delaware River, and there was no
significant English population till the arrival of the Quakers. New Sweden
didn't begin till about 1640, and it numbered less than 100 for many, many
years.
I have 2 books on Concord Twp, and find no mention of the surname
Wellbourne, any spelling, and it is not included in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER
COUNTY, by Futhey and Cope or any of my other books on early Chester. I
have early tax records of Chester Co, and land records, both starting in the
late 1600s, and no Wellbourne appears on any of them......
However, I find, in the early court records, (1707) Edward WILBOURN
(late of Birmingham twp) was indicted and plead guilty of stealing cloth
from John Hannum, and sentenced to repay double the value of the cloth to
John Hannum, pay court costs, be whipt 10 lashes on his bare back and wear
a Roman T, according to law.
