Goodness, I just saw your address.....West Chester, PA. You live in the
very area you're looking for folks........and have access to the CCHS and
Archives and Records....have you exhausted all the resources offered there,
locally? The rest of us would KILL to be able to research at the local
level, rather than in the books and CDs we must buy......
I know the CCHS has all the census, so you need to go backwards,
researching and documenting each generation, before proceeding back yet
another one.....you can't start at the far end and work forward, but need to
start with a documented generation and then work on the one directly before
it.. Did you look for Eliza in the household of her parents, in the 1870
census? She would be 2 years old and mentioned by name. Ditto for
George......figure when, by his age, that he'd have been in his parents
household, and check that census year for him.....in his parent's household.
It doesn't appear to me that there is any likelihood that Eliza and
George are related in any way to the Hibbert or Sharpless
families.......they seem to have been merely servants of the household.
You need to find out where they were BEFORE they were servants and hopefully
find them in their homes.,,,concentrate on Thompson and Kelly rather than
Hibbert and Sharpless.
Sandra
There is a John Hibberd and wife Mary Hibberd that appear in the
1880
Census for Middletown Twp., Delaware Co., PA with following in household:
Lydia H. Hibberd, Daughter
Carrie J. Hibberd, Daughter
Elizabeth Robinson, Other, Servant
George Thompson, Other, Works on farm
Henry Phillips, Other Works on farm
Is this family in any way connected to the Hibberd's you are
discussing? If so please let me know. I'm interested in the George
Thompson who was age 12 at the time of the 1880 census and believe he
is my Great-grandfather.
There is also a Willard Sharpless and wife Elizabeth which also
appear
in the 1880 Census for Middletown Twp., Delaware Co., PA with the
following in household:
Anna Sharpless, Daughter
Sarah Sharpless, Daughter
Charles T. Sharpless, Son
Wesley Sharpless, Other, Farm Laborer
Taylor Smith, Other, Farm Laborer
Eliza Kelly, Other, servant.
Eliza Kelly was abt 12 or 13 years old at the time of this census,
she
is my Great-grandmother who married George Thompson. They were married
in Delaware County, PA.
I'm interested in knowing if among any Hibberd or Sharpless family
papers or records there would be any more information of George Thompson
and Eliza Kelly.
