Pennsbury was formed from the eastern part of Kennet in 1770 and comprised the earliest settled part of the twp. The first surveys were made around 1686, but there were few settlements made until after `1700. The names of Francis Smith, Henry Peirce, Robert Way, Thomas Hope, George Harlan, Isaac Few, and William Huntley were among the first to take up land, and after them came the Harveys, Temples, Mendenhalls and Webb. John Parker, an eminent minister among Friends, was settled there in the time of the Revolution. The village of Parkersville, in this township, was so named in honor of him. The northern part of Pennsbury was cut off in forming Pocopson twp, in 1849
