Very interesting summary of the early origins of the University of Delaware and Francis Alison - thanks for the URL!
Re: Alexander McDowell who moved the New London Academy to his home a mile southwest of Lewisville after Dr. Alison left New London for Philadelphia. A few years ago, while searching for an old family home in Fair Hill (just over the line in Cecil Co., Md.), I met a very friendly farmer. He eventually mentioned that the old red brick house just downhill from his modern residence was the birthplace of the University of Delaware. When he proved unfamiliar with the name of Francis Alison, I was uncertain what to make of his story. Now I think he may have been referring to Alexander McDowell's home.
