When in doubt, particularly about a capital letter, I always hunt through
the census, or what-have-you, for a name that I can be sure of the spelling,
and look to see how the capital letter is formed...that's a big help in
detemining things for me. (this did NOT work for me in my foray into
English parish records of the 1600s. I kid you not - I could not see one
recognizable letter I was absolutely sure of, and actually couldn't tell,
without some studying, which way was up for the whole page.....!)
