Someone recently emailed me the name of Stackhouse, as one of their family names, and I 'looked around'.....and, found some interesting things on the name in THE WELCOME CLAIMANTS PROVED DISPROVED AND DOUBTFUL, by the Welcome Soc.
Apparently there was/is a controversy of whether the Stackhouses came to PA on the Welcome, and a chapter is devoted to proving that neither Thomas, Margery his wife, or John and Thomas his nephews, were on the Welcome.
The nephews were, later , in Bucks Co, in close proximity and association with their uncle, but there is no existing evidence to show what ship they arrived on, or if they were with their aunt and uncle. John and Margery are believed to have come on the Lamb, though Stackhouse is not listed in the English Port Books as having loaded anything on that ship.
Thomas married Margery Hayhurst 4mo 1682.....there is a possibility that Stackhouse was in some way related to Thomas Croasdale....and, Bucks co wills give credence to the theory.
Margery was buried 5th 11mo 1682-3....Thomas Stackhouse made an inventory of the estate of Cuthbery Hayhurst 11th 11mo 1683-4. The 1687 memorial on selling liquor to the Indians was signed by Thomas Stackhouse in his own hand and by Thomas Stackhouse Jr, by mark. Thomas will -from Belmont in Bensalem Twp, Bucks Co....names him a yoeman, 26th 9mo 1705...probated 31 Aug, 1706, names Margaret sole executrix. Middletown mm minutes had Thomas was still living there on 7 10mo 1699...apparently thy had no children and nephews Thomas and John, Brother and sisters are mentioned in Thomas (sr)s will, plus others.
Thomas jr married Grace Heaton 27 7mo 1688. John Stackhouse was in Bucks Co by 1685, d 9 2mo 1757..m at Middletown 7mo 1702, Elizabeth Pearson dau of Thomas and Grace Vipon Pearson. , d 21 6mo 1743 ....they had children;
