Passmore-Darlington
10th-mo. 16th, 1890, Hannah G. Darlington, of
Pocopson, smilingly welcomed her invited guests to the
marriage of her daughter, Annie, to Isaac A. Passmore,
of Oxford. They came by the various trains and by
carriages from Columbia, Philadelphia, Media, Chester,
Oxford, West Chester and the surrounding county, till
they numbered 76, twelve being prevented from
responding to their invitations by sickness and other
causes. In due time the guests were comfortably
seated about the parlors, and on the stoke of 12
o'clock the engage couple descended the stair,
preceded by their three bridesmaids and groomsmen.
The latter, on reaching their places, remained
standing until the former had passed between them, and
stood under a beautiful arch of smilax, decorated with
red and white pinks. After all were seated, a silence
of some ten minutes elapsed; the two arose, and taking
each other by the hand, said the simple, but beautiful
and impressive ceremony of the Society of Friends' and
the twain were made one. The certificate was then
signed by the contracting parties.
Clement M. Biddle, of Birmingham, spoke very
beautifully kindly words of advise for the new life
into which they were entering, saying the sunny and
cloudy days exemplified the joys and sorrows of their
pathway, but where true love existed, and the hearts
of husband and wife sought for the approval and
direction of their Heavenly Father, all would indeed
be well with them. Arthur Middleton, of Philadelphia,
then appeared in supplication, beseeching them to
remember, with thankful hearts whence all their
blessing came, and craving the guidance and protection
of the Father's love on their united lives.
About 1 o'clock the newly married couple passed
out to dinner, followed by the most aged and honored
of the guests. Two long tables were filed for the
third time before all had partaken of the elegant
repast gotten up in honor of the occasion.
The bride looked lovely in her beautiful
lansdowne, tastefully, yet neatly made with a V-shaped
neck, filled in with soft lace and a corsage bouquet
of bride (?) roses. The first, second and third
bridesmaids and groomsmen were as follows: Jennie
Darlington and Stephen Paschall, Mary Parker and
Samuel Passmore, Jr., Lizzie Way and Emlen Darlington.
Many very handsome presents were received, which from
several of the immediate relatives, took the form of
checks. The groom is a florist living in Oxford, and
they expect to take up their abode in that borough
about the first of next month, where the good wishes
of their many friends will follow them, hoping that
the new life just commenced may indeed be a happy one.

Passmore-Wickersham
Yesterday a quiet wedding took place in the
Friends' Meeting House at West Grove, when Hannah A.
Wickersham, daughter of William and Rachel Wickersham,
near that village, became the wife of John W.
Passmore, a farmer near Chatham, son of the late Lewis
and Ellen C. Passmore, of London Britain. They were
attended by Rebecca Wickersham and Phebe Cope as
bridesmaids and Rachel Wickersham as maid of honor,
while Herman Cope, Edward Sharpless and Chester Moore
served as ushers. At the home of the bride a
bounteous lunch was partaken of, the marriage
certificate signed by nearly 100 persons and a social
chat enjoyed.
About 4:30 the bride and groom were driven to the
railway, on which occasion some of their friends
thought fit to decorate the carriage with old shoes
tied on with rags. These embellishments did not
appear to be appreciated, as they were later observed
a short distance away on the roadside and hedge.
