I have excerpts from the Diary of the Rev. John Cuthbertson, 1751-1781. He
was a reformed Pres. minister in Adams, York and Lancaster. Most
Presbyterians of this region belonged to the main branch of colonial
Presbyterianism as represented by the Synod of Philadelphia, but there was
also a congregation of Reformed Presbyterians, or Covenanters. Rev Dr John
Cuthertson was sent from Scotland to minister to Scottish Covenanters in
America, in 1751, the first Reformed Presbyterian missionary to come to the
Americas. He kept a diary from the date he arrived in America up to 1791.
The Register of Marriages and Baptisms performed by Rev John Cuthbertson, by
S. Hellen Fields, was originally printed in 1934, reprinted 1983 by
Genealogical Publishing Co, Baltimore. (What I have are the births, deaths
and marriages performed in York Co....however, you need to search around to
see if you can locate the entire book, or if the other county records are
included in another book, as the York Co ones are)....

> Per "The Compendium of American Genealogy" Josiah Kerr (1715-1784) lived
in Bart Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. He was a commissioner of "Middle Octorara
Presbyterian Church in 1741. He later removed to Mt. Pleasant Twp., York
(now Adams) Co., PA. On January 24, 1757 a Josias Kerr sold land to the Rev
John Cuthbertson, a circuit rider preacher to the Presbyterians. Was this
the same Josiah(s) Kerr? Note that a Josiah Kerr shows up in Mt. Pleasant
Twp. paying taxes three years later. This Josiah Kerr is my fifth great
grandfather. I am looking for proof of mariage to a Mary Dinwiddie. Their
daughter Susannah married Archibald Coulter who lived "down the road" from
the Kerr's near Bonneauville and Whitehall, York (now Adams) Co. I find
reference to the "Rev John Cuthbertson preaching in a tent about two miles
from the house of David Dinwiddie Sept 1, 1751." At this time he baptized
(among others) Mary, daughter of David Dinwiddie.
