The earlier case was in the courts in 1705-6.
Here's another Thornly entry; 1703
"There being a bastard child brought from the house of John Martin of
Concord, the court having endeavored to find the reputed father thereof by
cannot ordered that the said child be called John Thornly, and that Edward
Willburn keep said John 3m months and be paid 6 shillings per week out of
the county stock."
Another; 1705;
Chester SS the Grand Jury for our Lady the Queen upon their oaths and solemn
affirmations do present that Mary Thorly late of Ashton in the county of
Chester Spinster the 10th day of Dec, in the 3 year of o]the Reign of Queen
Anne over England and c. at Ashton aforesaid in the county of Chester
fornication did commit and then and there had carnal Knowledge of the body
of John Robinson laborer against the form of an act of Assembly of this
government in that case made and provided and also against the peace of our
said Lady the Queen her crown and dignity.
Another 1705;
Mary Thorly late of AShton servant to Thomas Rowland yeoman at Aston,
aforesaid a bastard child then and there of her ince in that case made and
provided against the peace of our Lady the Queen.
Mary Thorly being called pleads guilty and on her solemn affirmation
declares John Robinson her fellow servant to be the father of her child the
court gives judgment that she the said Mary shall be whipt with 21 lashes
well laid on her bare back and pay all charges and serve her master one year
according to law.
( If the father of Mary's child was ordered to be whipped, too, I
couldn't find it.....!!!)
