Yeah, we're out here but we may spell the name
Jefferis or several other ways, so long as they have
some phonetic resemblance. In fact, I accept Jeffers
as a variant, since some of my modern Jefferis cousins
pronounce their name as Jeffers.
My data suggests that Elizabeth married John Hickman.
I have no further info on this family, as I descend
from Elizabeths younger brother, Job J. Jefferis. A
word of caution, this marriage is not from original
sources; it is mentioned in the bio of Squire Jefferis
(my favorite name in genealogy) that is included in
the 1880 History of Darke County, Ohio W. H. Beers,
Chicago. I believe parts of the writeup in the 1880
Beers book may have come directly from Futhey &
Copes earlier work, History of Chester County,
Pennsylvania, but someone on the list must help me
here.
You have come to the right place to collect data. You
MUST check the archives of this list, starting from
now and going back to the beginning. There have been
many Jefferis postings.
Also, in the 18th century the Jefferis and Darlington
families were Quaker. That is really good news,
because the Quakers tended to document everything.
Happiness is good documentation for a family historian
so check Quaker Meeting minutes for some real data.
Good luck.
