The family ran the Granite quarry in St Peters until the 1960s (I think that
is when they sold the village *G*)

Subject: [PaOldC] Knauer

|I checked the CD of PA wills and found the following..
| There were, at least, a few Knauers in Berks Co....and Adam, in 1817,
| and a Catharine in 1825 (mentions in wills as witnesses, etc)
| Then, in Chester Co, the only mentions of the surname pre 1840;
|
| KNAUER, CHRISTOPHER. East Nantmel. October 14, 1811.Elizabeth, John &
David
| Knauer, administrators.
|
|
| KNAUER, JOHN. East Nantmel.March ---, 1823. April 15, 1824.To son David
part
| of my plantation whereon he is now settled, as described, subject to
payment
| of $200.To son Jonathan part of the plantation whereon he is now settled,
as
| described, inc. grist and saw mill, subject to payment of $3000.To son
| Tobias rem. of plantation whereon I now live, subject to payment of $1800:
| which said sums of money are to be paid to my other sons, Christopher,
John,
| Daniel, Samuel and Jacob, being $1000 each. To my two daus., Maria wife of
| Adam Hetherly, and Rebecca wife of George Brunner, $400 each out of
personal
| estate. Remainder to sons.Executors: Sons Christopher, Samuel and Tobias
| Knauer.Wits: David Knauer, Jr., Christopher Knauer, Jr., Jonathan Hudson.
|
| There is a bio in THE HISTORY OF CHESTER COUNTY PA, by Futhey and
| Cope....highlights;
| JOhn Kmauer...first of his family in America, emigrated from Germany,
| settled in Warwick twp and erected the frst saw and grist mill in
Kanuerton,
| village named in his honor.
| son david m. Chaharine Kime, had 4 sons and 6 daughters....Davis, 3rd son
| and 8th child, b Jan 26, 1826. m Sarah Amanda, dau of John Roberts in
1857.
| eleven children...3 disceased, following living Ida Kate, Annie, Mary,
| David, Geo, MOrris, Bertha Elizabeth.
| family attends ST Peters REformed Lutheran Church.
|
| Because of the unusual name AND the area of WArwick twp, I'd imagine
| your line is somehow related to the above John, et al...so, this gives you
| something to work on, AND and church.
|
| I looked at the 1870 Census, and found no Philip...did find 2 Amos; 2
| David; Davis; 2 Elizabeth; George; Esther; Harrison; 3 John; Jonathan;
| Johua; Levi; Rebecca; Sarah; Thomas. Most of them lived in Coventry,
| WArwick and EAst Nantmeal.
| Have you looked for Philip in the 1880 census, in the household of his
| parents?
|
| Sandra
|
|
|
| Philip's parents are: DANIEL KNAUER, b. 1840 Warwick (Chester County) PA,
| d. ___, m. MARY HART, b. 1837.
| > Philip's grandparents are: DANIEL KNAUER, b.____ (Chester County) PA,
m.
