Man, he was one old dude......if born in 1752 and died in 1847 that made him
around 95! Have you done a patriot lookup to see if anyone joined the DAR
with him as their vet? and, have you written the NARA to see if they have
service/pension papers? Both might have family data.
I checked the CD of Pa wills, hoping to find James in the will of a
parent...but, no luck.

I am doing research on James Crawford who died in Carter Co KY between Jan.
7, 1847 when he applied for his Rev. War pension and the Feb. 1847 term of
county court when a son was appointed administrator of his estate. He stated
on his pension application that he was born 13 Oct. 1752 in Chester Co. PA.
He lists four terms of service and on one he states " In the spring of 1777
I was drafted again under Captain Mash or Marsh, I cannot remember which,
and Colonel Miller at Phildelphia to watch the enemy coming up the Delaware,
but understanding they were landed at the head of the Elk River within 16
miles of my Fathers". In one he mentions Chadd's Ford and Brandywine. It has
been suggested that by this time his father may have been in Delaware. In
1782 a James Crawford was listed as a single free man in Sadsbury Township
of Chester Co. Our James was not supposed to have married the first time
until he was 40 years old and that was in the state of VA which would go
along with ! this. I have a good record of this life after that. We had
been given a romantic story of how he came to America as a young lad, but
that of course does not go along with anything we have found so far. The
first wife died and he married Jane Llewellyn and had 11 children. She was
also from VA. Some of the family have James listed as James Harvey, but
James is the only name I have found on any papers. His first son by the 2nd
marriage was Harvey and the second son was John Milton. I am working on the
theory that Harvey, John and Milton might be names on the Crawford side as
they do not show up on the Llewellyn side so far. Thank you. Linda >
