According to a biography I have tiltled "Major General Anthony Wayne" (Charles J. Stille), 1893, Anthony's father was Isaac, and Anthony was his only son. Anthony himself had one daughter (Margaretta, m. Willam R. ATLEE; had a daughter Mary who m. Issachar EVANS; had one child, William EVANS) and no sons. However...Isaac came to PA from Ireland in 1722 with his father and 3 brothers (not listed), so perhaps Samuel was an uncle or first cousin of the general. The family estate was Waynesborough in Easttown Twp., Chester Co.

Subject: [PaOldC] Wayne, Elliott, Wilgus

This is my first attempt to post on the PA-OLD-CHESTER site.

I found the following Wilgus family history written by 2 cousins. Their
common ancestor was John Borman Wilgus. I am going to send the note word
for word.

"Grandmother Wilgus' Family"

"Sally Elliott Wayne was grandmother Wilgus' mother. Grandmother Wilgus'
father was John Wilgus. They had 10 children. They lost 2 boys and
raised 8 girls:"

The body of the note lists all the girls and their husbands.

At the close of the letter: "Grandmother Wayne (grandmother Wilgus'
mother) sat on George Washington's lap when a little girl about 7 years
old."

The note closed with. "Katharyn Smith sent this to me." (per Mercie
Cottrell)

John B. Wilgus was married to Sara R. Elliott. John born Delaware, in
1789. Sara born PA. In 1779

I know some of the daughters of John Wilgus were married around
Philadelphia PA.

In the 1830 census John B. Wilgus is found living in Logan co. Ohio,

In the 1840 census Margaret Wayne is found living with John B. Wilgus in
Logan co. OH.

In the 1850 census Margaret Wayne is found living with John B. Wilgus
born in DE. Margaret Wayne is 85 years old born DE. Still living in
Logan co. OH. From the census information I figure Margaret being born
around 1765.

I found Margaret in the North Greenfield Cemetery, Logan co. OH. The
tombstone says Wayne, Margaret, d..1854. (wife of Samuel Wayne.) This is
the same cemetery with John B. and his wife.

Another Wilgus cousin told me that Margaret Wayne was married to a Wayne
who was in the military. And we don't have a maiden name for Margaret.
In searching the internet for Samuel Wayne I came across The Chester Co.
web site that has information about their famous "Mad Anthony Wayne as a
resident." I have not found much about the women in this Wayne family
and in searching the Chester co. archives I didn't find a Samuel Wayne.
Am wondering if anyone has anything on any of the people named above.

Thanks for any input. Dick Smith, Marion, IN.
