After other listers so kindly provided specifics about St Gabriel's
School and its location, I recalled driving past it several times about
25 years ago -- it was not depressing at all, but was a large cluster
of rather elegant buildings from maybe 1900-1915 in the middle of farm
land. I seem to recall my companions saying that it was put way out in
the country with the idea that troubled boys would be sequestered in
healthful surroundings, be given a good education, and learn to do
useful work on the farms and grounds. I expect it worked well for some
of the boys and not well for others, like all things human.
