Fred brings up an EXCELLENT point - the importance of placing the actual
subject of the posting into the subject slot...as I've said so many times
before - many list members belong to multiple lists and they scan the
subjects of all their list posts to decide whether to bother reading them.
Thus, if you use a useless non-subject, like genealogy, or my family, old
churches, etc you get deleted, unread. ...ditto for using the same subject
for days....many don't bother taking the time to see what it is actually
about....they delete. Regardless of whether this deleting without reading
is a smart thing to do, or not, it is a fact of life. Therefore, it's
really importance to placing the actual subject in the slot....if it's
about a person, then put that person, with a date, as your subject. If it's
about a specific meeting, place THAT name as the subject. If your post is
an answer to a specific query, then post just enough of the post you are
answering to let everyone know what you're talking about, being sure to
remove all of the old post you don't actually need, AND all the old
addresses and the taglines that appear at the end of each posting. The
folks who use the digest form really complain about the long, LONG things
sometimes sent, composed of a couple whole emails, several addresses and a
couple sets of taglines.
Frankly, most folks wouldn't bother, as Fred has, to skim old messages,
looking for actual subjects - they just shrug their shoulders and delete.
So, it really is important that the subject reflect the post .
Thus ends "what to put in the subject line" 101!

S.

I'm confused, but I want to help. Is someone looking for the artists'
conception of a QUAKER meetinghouse in Radnor torn down in 1805? No one
has changed the subject line on this thread although a wide variety of
information has been posted in the various messages, and I have only
skimmed some of them.
