Hii, Harry Craig, (Major) of San Francico, not a native of Bucks Co.,
spent his youth just over its borders at Hatboro, has alway taken an
interest in the county as the home of his maternal ancestors. He is the
son of Dr. John Howard and Cynitha (Craig) Hill, who married in 1835,
and was born in Phila.
His paternal ancestors, William and Mary (Hunter) Hill, came to America
fron Ireland about 1720 and settled in Middeltown, Chester Co, where the
former died in 1747, leaving 6 children, Alexander, Mary, John, Peter,
Christina, and one unknown. John Hunter, the father of Mary (Hunter)
Hill, was a native of Durham, England.
John Hill, son of William and Mary (Hunter) was born in Middletown,
Chester Co, in 1736, died there Feb 14, 1814, He married at Christ
Church, July 22, 1766 to Mary Gibbons, d/o Joseph and Hannah (Marshall)

great-granddaughter of John and Margery Gibbons, who came from
Warminster, Wiltshire, England, in 1681 and settled in Chester Co, Mary

Hannah Marshall was a daughter of Abraham Marshall, who came from
Grantton, Derbyshire, England, in 1700, and a sister to Humphrey
Marshall. John and Mary (Gibbons) were the parents of 13 children, 11

Humphrey Hill, the grandfather of Major Hill, was the third son of John
and Mary, and was born Oct 1763 and died Dec 18ll. He was married at
Christ Church, March 3, 1791 to Alice Howard, d/o JOhn and Sarah
(Bunting) Howard, and granddaughter to Thomas and Grace (Beakes) Howard.
Sarah (Bunting) Howard was the daughter of John and Alice Lord
(Nicholson) Bunting of Burlington Co., NJ and granddaughter of Samuel
and Mary (Foulke) Bunting, the former of whom was a son of Anthony and
Ellen Bunting, of Matlock, Derbyshire, England. and the latter a
daughter of Thomas Foulke, one of the nine commissioner of New Jersey,
and settled at Crosswicks in 1677. Grace (Beaks) Howard, a daughter of
Stephen Beaks and Elisabeth Biles, of Bucks Co., both natives of
England, their repective parents William Beaks, of Barkwell,
Somersetshire and William Biles, of Dorchester, being among the earliest
settlers on the Delaware in Bucks Co.
Dr. John Howard Hill, the father of Major Hill, was the only child of
Humphrey and Alice (Howard) Hill, of Hatboro, Montgomery Co. He was
twice married, having married Dec 13, 1813 to Eliza Louisa Davis, and
