I looked through the CD of wills and the only mention of an area Philip
Lewis I can find in in the will of someone (non-family related), in
Hilltown, Bucks Co, 1758....nothing mentioning him in as an heir in any
way...or, in his own right.
Remember, too, that in this area at least, Jones was often used
interchangeably as the name John, in many cases. Griffith John, who came
from Wales in around 1710, had children, some of whom used the surname
Jones....and there were a lot of them, most living around Tredyffrin. This
namespelling change makes it just that much harder when doing Welsh
research....(This Griffith
did have a son named John)..Griffith died in 1753 and was buried at the
Great Valley Baptist Church where, Futhey and Cope say, 7 succeeding
generations lie (this was by 1881). So, this could be the tie-in between
the families.
The 1765 Chester archives have a John John who is listed as a freeman in
Charlestown...a freeman was an unmarried man who lived in the twp, but owned
no land.
Have you visited the CCHS site, online, and checked to see what they
might have onhand in the way of records for the Great Valley Church?
