Subject: [PaOldC] John Dennis, Warwick Furnace, Chester County, Pa
Date: Sat, 8 Sep 2007 10:32:24 -0400
I am looking for the John Dennis family that was living in the Warwick Furnace community, Chester County, Pa.
Ledgers and Journals, archived from the operation of the Warwick Furnace, between 1759-1762, show that John Dennis was working as the accountant or manager for the Warwick Furnace.
The youngest daughter of John Dennis was Tabitha Dennis, born 19 November 1766, in Chester County, Pa and married Jacob Nicholls Clark, Revolutionary War soldier, born 13 October 1754.
In an old family letter written circa 1882, their grandson states the following: " John Dennis, whose wife had been a widow named Tabitha Leighton, and whose maiden name was Dove of Chester County PA, near Warwick Furnace, was my great grandfather on my maternal side. He was a clerk and manager of the Furnace. They had several children, among them the youngest was Tabitha Dennis, whom Jacob Clark my grandfather married."
After the Revolutionary War, Jacob and Tabitha Dennis Clark settled in Cumberland Maryland, and as their children grew into adults, later migrated primarily to various parts of Ohio and western Pennsylvania.
Tabitha Dennis Clark died, a widow, in Washington D.C., at the home of her son, 03 Jul 1843, and the newspaper was asked to copy her obituary to The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Maryland. Since none of Jacob and Tabitha's children or grandchildren were living near Baltimore, it seems likely that there may have been other relatives living there at the time, perhaps her siblings and/or their offspring.
Any information is greatly appreciated.
