While Futhey and Cope mention a couple McConnell/McConnels, nothing for an
Alexander, I'm afraid. I did find the following mentions in area wills,
that might have clues for you...they are the only area wills that contain
the name either spelling:
GAY, MATTHEW. Concord.August 23, 1758. October 9, 1758.To wife Margaret 1/3
of all estate. To son John 2/3 of estate except a horse which I bequeath to
my stepson Alexander McConnell and cow to stepdaughter Jean
McConnell.Executrix: Wife.Witnesses: Alexander Withrow, Ann Gregg. (I
looked then in a book on Concord, and found Matthew Gay, and his full
will....he was a very well to do fella....but, nothing more on Alesdr. or
what appears to have been his sister, Jean)
MCCONNELL, ALEXANDER, Pennsboro Township, Cumberland Co. March 18, 1756/25
March 1756.Jean Still(?), "my intended wife." William McCreery.Exs.: James
Logan and Andrew McCreery. Wit: None. A. 35.
The followint indicates that there was no will, but there were adm. papers,
which may contain valuable info...you just never know...
McCONNEL, ALEXANDER. (Chester co) May 19, 1729.Adm. to Elizabeth McConnell.
Depending on what the 1723 date was representative of (birth?Death?, etc)
you might want to consider Lanc. Co....Sadsbury, once part of Chester Co
became part of the newly formed Lanc. Co, in, if memory serves, 1729. And,
with a name like Alexander McConnell, I'd consider a definate possiblily
that the gent was a Scot, and therefor, probably a Presbyterian, and try
looking for Pres. congregations.
