In April, my husband and I visited Philadelphia to do my Burk Family
research.
We went to the Philadelphia City Archives, Genealogical Society of
PA/Historical Society of PA and visited a couple cemeteries.
For anyone doing research using the Vital (Birth/Marriage/and Death)
records, I recommend going to the Genealogical/Historical Society. Films and
microfilm reader printers are in much better to read and print and the copies are
cheaper than the Philadelphia City Archives. No offense to the City Archives,
they have good records also.
Prior to our trip, my husband came across the website Interment.net
containing transcriptions of thousands of cemeteries around the world. That's where
I found Greenwood Cemetery in Philadelphia and found my
ggg grandparents, John and Ann Burk were buried. Searching for other names
in the family, I found one of the children and her family were there also.
Checking the cemetery returns for Greenwood Cemetery on microfilm at the
Societies, my ggg grandparents and daughter's family are buried in the same plot.
We took a drive through the cemetery. Not knowing the cemetery or what
section we should be looking in, we didn't stop to walk around. I really would
have loved getting pictures of the grave stone(s). We were a little
disappointed the cemetery office was closed.
My question to anyone familiar with Greenwood records:
1. The only citation on the top of the top of the cemetery card we found at
the Society is A - 68 Deed #.
---Is this the location of the plot or is there another record the
cemetery office would check for the actual location?
>From the transcription records of Greenwood Cemetery on the website, there
has to be at least a stone or a family plot which was transcribed.
Our trip was very successful. We didn't find everything we wanted, but I
left Philadelphia very happy and looking forward to our next trip there.
Any help is welcome.
