FTDNA performs the testing for NatGeo, so yes, they are affiliated. A person who has tested for NatGeo can join an FTDNA project--but you'd need to find one that you are eligible for. Joe, your Y-DNA test would follow your direct paternal line--your father's father's father's father etc.
