GAMONDE, WELCH, MCCARTNEY

VETERAN LOCAL BARBER TAKEN BY DEATH
Death last week claimed the dean of the tonsorial trade in McDonald when
Louis A. GAMOND died following an illness of about three months.
Louis A. GAMONDE, 72, of East Lincoln avenue, McDonald, died a t2:00 a.m.,
Thursday, August 18, 1960, in the Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 18, 1888, in France, and came to the United States at the
age of three. He had been a resident of McDonald for the past 69 years and
had operated a barber shop for the past 50 years.
Mr. GAMONDE was a member f the McDonald Fire Department and the
LaSolidarite Association of McDonald.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy BELL GAMONDE; a daughter, Mrs. Raymond
WADE; a sister, Mrs. Bertha DANIELS, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Audrey
TURKILY, and Mrs. Robert MICHALAK, all of McDonald. A son, John, died in
October, 1958.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Pettit funeral home,
McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Edward R. DeLAIR, pastor of the First
Presbyterian Church, McDonald. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.

Alvin Harry WELCH, 70, of Smith Township, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday,
August 20, 1960, in the U.S. Veterans' hospital, Butler, following a long
illness.
A son of the late John W. and Martha WELCH, he was born near Burgettstown.
He was a graduate of Hickory high school and Winona College of Agriculture,
Ind. He had been engaged in farming in Smith Township. He served in World
War I with the 308th Engineers and participated in the Marne, Argonne, and
Chateau-Thierry engagements in France. He joined the Cross Creak
Presbyterian Church in his youth and later became a member of the First U.
P. Church, Burgettstown. He had never married.
Surviving are three brothers, M. Reed WELCH, Sr., of Hickory; the Rev.
Edward W. WELCH of New Concord, Ohio, and J. Wilbert WELCH of Burgettstown;
and two sisters, Grace, the wife of Frank LIESKEY of Sanford, Fla., and miss
Mary B. WELCH of New Concord, Ohio. A sister, Mrs. Sarah STONER, is
deceased.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Burgettstown in charge of
the Rev. Sherman WILSON. Burial was in Fairview cemetery.

George M. MCCARTNEY, Jr., 33, of Westland, died at 3:00 p.m. Saturday,
August 20, 1960, in a nursing home in Canonsburg, following an illness of 12
years.
A son of George McCARTNEY, Sr., of Westland, and Mary Bell MCCLAIN
MCCARTNEY, of Wheeling, W. Va., he was born April 5, 1927, in Westland.
He was a member of the Westland U. P. Church and L.O.O.M. 22, Washington.
He was graduated from Hickory high school in 1945.
Besides his parents, he leaves a brother, Harlan McCARTNEY of Westland; a
sister, Mrs. Mary Ann LIKAR of Washington, and his paternal grandfather,
Samuel McCARTNEY of Westland.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Houston in charge of the
Rev. J. M. SCOTT. Burial was in Oak Spring cemetery.
