PYLE, HALL, FERGUSON, BRUCE, DUTCH, BURKETT
Lyle Gibson PYLE, 52, of McDonald, was found dead at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, June
29, 1952, in the offices of the American Express Company, McDonald, where he
has been employed as an agent.
The coroner's office reported he had been dead about two hours.
He was born January 1, 1900, in Midway, a son of Esther M. THOMPSON PYLE
and the late Samuel H. PYLE.
During World War I, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his mother, who resides in Steubenville, Ohio; three
sisters, Mrs. Myra CULLEY, of Mayview; Mrs. Wilma SEAMAN, of Portland, Ore.,
and Mrs. Grace EILER, of McDonald, and a brother, S. M. PYLE, of
Connellsville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Rogers funeral home, in
charge of the Rev. Donald L. AIREY. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.
Thomas Andrew HALL died at 11:30 p.m. June 26, 1952, at his home in
Patterson avenue, Imperial, following a lingering illness.
He was born in Washington County near Florence and was the last of his
family. He was a well known retired farmer.
He leaves his wife, Martha C. HALL; a son, Andrew M. HALL and a daughter,
Mrs. Louise BUFFINGTON, both of Imperial and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Cross Creek Presbyterian
church in charge of the Rev. Donald G. PHILLIPS. Burial was in the Cross
Creek cemetery.
Mrs. Mayme FERGUSON died at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at her home in Phoenix,
Ariz., following a long illness.
The family was formerly from Midway and McDonald. Her husband, William
FERGUSON, died a number of years ago.
Surviving are three daughters; Miss Helen and Miss Geneva, both of Phoenix,
Ariz., and Mrs. William HOGG of McDonald.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in Phoenix.
Mrs. Jane MCFARLANE BRUCE, 84, wife of the late James BRUCE, died Friday,
June 27, 1952, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Daniel SMITH, Sr., Westend,
McDonald, after an illness of three weeks.
She was born December 5, 1867, at Witcha, Scotland, a daughter of William
and Margaret ALLAN MCFARLANE. She had resided in the McDonald district for
the past 74 years. Mrs. BRUCE was a member of the First United Presbyterian
church of McDonald.
She is survived by ten children; David, of Monongahela; Mr. Rachael SMITH,
of McDonald; Mrs. Jeannette KAYLOR, of West View; Mrs. Agnes ADAMS of
Pittsburgh,
Mrs. Marie MCKINEY, of Lakewood, Ohio; Mrs. Margaret CARNOT of Jeannette;
Mrs. Ann SMITH of McDonald, James BRUCE, of Monessen, John BRUCE of Milbrae,
Calif., and Lawrence THOMAS, of McDonald, a brother, Robert MCFARLANE, of
Mt. Lebanon, and a sister, Mrs. Rachael BRACKENRIDGE, of Fayette CITY, and
41 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Rogers funeral home n
charge of the Rev. S. E.GLASS. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.
John DUTCH, 64, of Montour 9, died June 21, 1952, in the Allegheny General
hospital.
Funeral services were held June 24 in charge of Fr. Martin P. FLAHERTY.
Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.
FORMER MIDWAY WOMAN DIES IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. Elizabeth May BURKETT STURGEON, 57, wife of Henry Sturgeon, died at
10:20 a.m. June 25, 1952, at her home in Oildale, Calif., where she had
resided since 1924.
Mrs. STURGEON formerly lived at Midway and was a daughter of the late
Alexander and Anna BURKETT of Midway.
Her husband, Henry STURGEON, formerly of Oakdale, survives, and the
following children, Anna Mary OLIVER and Jean STURGEON and five
grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters; William G. BURKETT of
Washington, Mrs. Mary BURSIDE of New Castle, Alvin A. BURKETT of
Steubenville, Ohio, Richard H. BURKETT of Colliers R. D. W. Va., and Mrs.
Mildred ROBERT of Burgettstown, R. D.
