GATY, LORSON, BEDNARCZYK, KENNEDY, BEHLING, SHAFFER, BOONE

Mrs. Philomene GATY, 72, died at 9:115 p.m. Thursday, August 12, 1943, in
the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman SUPLIT, Valley street, McDonald.
A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prosper Ghislain DEVREUX, she was born November
14, 1870 in Jumet, Belgium, and had been a resident of McDonald the past 47
years.
Besides Mrs. SUPLIT, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sylvia JIANNINO of
Wilkinsburg, and a granddaughter, Hilda Mae SUPLIT.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Irons Memorial French U.
P. church, McDonald, conducted by the pastor, Dr. Alexandre MAGE. Burial
was in Hilldale cemetery.

Mrs. Bertha COLTERYAHN LORSON, 57, died at 7:55 p.m. Wednesday, August 11,
1943, in her home, 350 Valley street, McDonald, following a five-month
illness.
A daughter of Frederick and Katherine KRANZ COLTERYAHN, she was born in
Pittsburgh and had been a resident of McDonald about 25 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sisters and one brother: the
latter resides in Carrick.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Pettit's funeral home,
McDonald, conducted by the Rev. O. E. GARDNER, D. D., pastor of the First
Presbyterian church, McDonald. Burial was in the Zimmerman cemetery,
Carrick.

Mrs. Agnes BEDNARCZYK, 52, of Bulger died at 8:00 a.m. Friday, August 13,
1943, in the Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh. Her death resulted from a fall she
suffered Tuesday, August 10. She was born in Poland and had been a resident
of Bulger the last 20 years.
Besides her husband, John BEDNARCZYK, she is survived by three daughters:
Mrs. James MOWRA of Burgettstown, Mrs. John TARHALLA of Bulger, and Miss
Frances BENARCZYK at home; two sons: Stanley of Bulger and Walter, serving
with the army overseas; four grandchildren, and one sister.
Funeral services were held Monday in St. Ann's church, Bulger. Burial was
in Fairview cemetery, Burgettstown.

Mrs. Estella ROGERS KENNEDY, 68, died of a stroke of apoplexy at 5:30 p.m.
Friday, August 13, 1943, in her home in Mars.
Mrs. KENNEDY was a member of the Mars United Presbyterian church. She was
the eldest daughter of the late Henry and Sabina ROGERS, former residents of
Fourth street, McDonald.
She is survived by her husband, James H. KENNEDY; two daughters: Mrs.
Walker SHIELDS of Pittsburgh and Mrs. S. A. GROSS of Mars; three sons: H.
R. Rogers KENNEDY of Point Marion, James H. C. KENNEDY of Zelienople, and
Preston B. KENNEDY of Warrendale; two sisters: Mrs. C. P. SCHAUGHENCY of
Beaver and Mrs. T. W. SHUPE of McDonald. There are eleven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Walters funeral home,
Mars, Pa.

Mrs. Emma C. GARBE BEHLING, 72, died suddenly of a heart attack at 10:00
p.m. Friday, August 13, 1943, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward
BRABSON, 233 East Lincoln avenue, McDonald.
She was born September 8, 1870, in Germany and came to the United States 59
years ago, locating in McDonald and had resided here since. She was a
member f the First United Presbyterian church, McDonald, the Dames of
Maltas, and the Rebekah lodge.
She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. J. P. BERRY of Mather, Greene
county, and Mrs. Edward BRABSON of McDonald. There are seven grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Ella Frederick JOHNSTON,
died eight years ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the BRABSON home, conducted
by the Rev. S. A. MCCOLLAM, D. D., pastor of the First United Presbyterian
church, McDonald. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.

Professor James McAllister SHAFFER, 87, former mathematics teacher at
Westminster college and former school principal at McDonald and Canonsburg,
died Monday, August 16, 1943, in the home of his daughter,, Mrs. Lawrence
KERR, 159 Roosevelt avenue, Sunset hills, Aliquippa. Professor SHAFFER was
born in Independence township, Beaver county, son of the late Samuel and
Agnes MCALLISTER SHAFFER. He attended Ingleside academy, McDonald, Edinboro
State Normal school, and Cornell university. He taught at Ingleside and
Slippery Rock State normal and after retiring as a college professor, taught
in the Hopewell and Center township schools. He retired from teaching seven
years ago. Besides his daughter, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Nancy SWENSON; a
brother, D. P. SHAFFER, and two grandchildren. He was a son-in-law of the
late S. H. COOK of McDonald.
Funeral services were held Tuesday night in an Aliquippa funeral home.
Burial was Wednesday in Robinson's Run cemetery, McDonald.

Charles William BOONE, known to friends and relatives as Bill BOONE, died
suddenly Thursday, August 12, 1943, in the Naval hospital at Norfolk, Va.
He was a second-class seaman at Camp Perry, Va.
He was a son of Charles and Cora TWYFORD BOONE and when very young resided
with his parents in Clinton, where his mother was reared. Later the family
moved to McKees Rocks. Mrs. Kathleen MCLAUGHLIN of Clinton is a sister and
Mrs. Samuel LITTLE of Clinton is an aunt of the deceased.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon in the Cl**** STOVER
home.
