John K. COWDEN died on Thursday morning, October 25, 1917, at the home of
his sister, Mrs. Harry MCNARY, at Houston. Mr. COWDEN's death was due
indirectly to injuries received on Friday before his death, when he fell
from an apple tree from which he was preparing to gather a basket of fruit.
No on was with Mr. COWDEN at the time he fell, and he laid on the ground for
some time in an unconscious condition before he was discovered and taken to
a nearby house. Later he was removed to the home of his sister, Mrs.
MCNARY, in Houston. The physician who was summoned found one arm fractured
and injuries about he neck and other parts of the body. Later Mr. COWDEN
suffered from an ailment approaching pneumonia, the result, it is believed,
of lying on the cold ground after falling from the tree. This trouble was
the immediate cause of death.
Mr. COWDEN's wife was a Miss BOYCE of Chartiers township. She died several
years ago. Mr. COWDEN is survived by his son Emil COWDEN, of Painesville,
Ohio, and daughter, Mrs. A. A. GILMORE of West Newton. He is also survived
by the following brothers and sisters: Robert and William of the Hickory
section, Joseph and VanEman of near Venice, Mrs. Harry MCNARY of Houston,
Mrs. Joseph LITTLE of Wilkinsburg, and Miss Ida COWDEN.
Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. MCNARY at Houston Saturday
afternoon, in charge of the Rev. S. G. CONNER of Venice, assisted by the
Rev. J. C. KISTLER of Houston. Interment was in the Venice cemetery.
John Baptist TREMEAUX, aged 67 years, died at his home in North avenue at
three o'clock Friday afternoon, October 26, 1917, after a short illness of
stomach trouble.
Mr. TREMEAUX was born in France March 28, 1850. He fought during the
Franco-Prussian war of 1817, being a volunteer with CALIBARDI. About
twenty-nine years ago Mr. TREMEAUX came to America. He worked as a miner
for a number of years, but lately was retired. His first wife died twelve
years ago. Mr. TREMEAUX is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catherine PROSPER
TREMEAUX, one son and three daughters: Jules TREMEAUX of McDonald, Mrs.
George COTTLE of Carnegie, and Mrs. Marie and Marguerite TREMEAUX at home;
also one brother and one sister, Claude TREMEAUX and Mrs. Fannie PARMENTIER,
at Dellys, Algiers, Africa. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon with
burial in Robinson's Run cemetery.
Mrs. James W. MILLIGAN died at her home in Noblestown on Wednesday morning,
October 31, 1917, at nine o'clock, of Bright's disease. Mrs. MILLIGAN was
about thirty-five years old. She was Miss Ruby SLYE before her marriage.
Her husband, one son, Robert, and one daughter, Mary, survive, also a large
number of relatives. The funeral services were held from the family home on
Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
Mrs. Emil DOUMONT, aged 29 years, died at the home of her parents at
Primrose on Saturday, October 27, 1917. She had been ill for six months.
Her husband, three children and her parents survive her. The funeral
service was conducted by the Rev. W. D. IRONS, D. D. on Monday afternoon.
Interment was at Midway.
