MCKINLEY, DEARBOS, MCMILLAN, LINDSEY (2), WADE, SUZO, SLOAN, KELLY



Charles MCKINLEY, a Negro, was shot while attempting to enter the home of a miner at Cherry Valley on Tuesday, June 27. The weapon used was a double-barreled shot-gun; both barrels were fired at once and the shot took effect in the negro's leg. He hobbled to the home of a friend, where he developed tetanus and died on Monday, July 3. The man who fired the shot has fled from that section.



Mrs. Charles DEARBOS, wife of a miner living near Bishop, was found drowned on a Sunday morning near her home in less than six inches of water. The woman disappeared on Saturday and a search was instituted and kept up all night. Her husband discovered her body lying on the bank of a small stream within 100 feet of her home, only her head submerged. It is believed that she had gone to the bank of the stream to see if the raspberries were ripe enough to pick. As the victim was subject to fainting spells, it is believed she had become unconscious while examining the berry bushes, falling with her head in the water. The deceased was aged about 45 years and is survived by her husband only.



Mary MCMILLAN, aged 24 years, died at Woodville on Thursday, June 29. For the past three years the deceased had been of unsound mind and two years ago she was taken to Woodville. She was a daughter of Mrs. Catherine MCMILLAN and besides her mother is survived by three brothers and three sisters, as follows: Matthew MCMILLAN of Cumberland, Md.; William and John MCMILLAN at home; Mrs. MCCALMONT, Moon Run; Mrs. MALCOLM, McKees Rocks, and Mrs. John COCHRAN of this place. The funeral services in charge of Rev. D. IRONS, of whose church she was a member, were held Saturday evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. John COCHRAN on Fanny street. The interment occurred Sunday afternoon in Arlington cemetery.



Addison VanEman LINDSEY, son of Mr. and Mrs. VanEman LINDSEY of Washington, died suddenly Friday, June 30, aged 23 years. The deceased was a splendid young man, of exemplary conduct, and had a wide circle of friends, who were shocked to learn that he had been so suddenly called away. He was a student at Washington and Jefferson college, and would have graduated next year. He was born at Cherry Valley, Mt. Pleasant township. Besides his father and mother, two brothers and two sisters William, John, Mary, and Bertha, all at home, survive him. The funeral took place on Monday and was attended by many from McDonald and Midway.



Mrs. Jane WADE aged 84 years; died at her home in Noblestown shortly after midnight Tuesday from the infirmities incident to extreme age. She was the mother of John WADE, who is extensively engaged in the lumber business at Noblestown, Sheraden and West Liberty. She also leaves behind one daughter, Mrs. SWARTZ, of Noblestown. Mrs. WADE had been a member of the M. E. church for a many years. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. HOFFMAN of Pittsburgh, at her late residence on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The interment occurred in Arlington cemetery.



Anna, wife of John SUZO, died at her home at Laurel Hill on Friday night of last week of septicemia. On Monday morning requiem mass was said at St. Patrick's church, Noblestown, by Rev. Father J. A. BURGOON, the interment following in the churchyard. Mrs. SUZO leaves five small children; the youngest an infant but a few days old.



"Dad" SLOAN, one of the oldest conductors on the Panhandle, was killed at Bower Hill last Friday. He had many friends in McDonald.



Ed KELLY was crushed to death while at his work as weigh master of the Laurel Hill mines on Saturday. He was forty-five years old and is survived by his wife (Nel FERRIS) and a large family of children. Mr. KELLY formerly lived her and his remains were buried in Centre cemetery on Tuesday.

Addison, son of Mr. and Mrs. VanEman LINDSEY, died suddenly of heart failure at his home in Washington about 7 o'clock on Friday morning. The young man formerly lived with his parents in the vicinity of Midway and had a host of friends here. He was about 23 years old, talented and promising. He leaves behind his parents, two brothers, John and Will, and two sisters, Misses Bertha and Mary. His demise has caused much sorrow among his friends and the family has the sympathy of all acquaintances.
