SNEEZJACK, PHILLIPS, MCBURNEY, MCCONNELL



Mrs. SNEESJACK died suddenly of the flu, at her home on State
Street. She leaves her husband and five small children. Interment was in
the Catholic cemetery.

Mrs. Mary MCCLEARY PHILLIPS, aged 79 years, widow of Fulton
PHILLIPS, founder of The Canonsburg Notes, died at her home in Oakdale,
Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock
Tuesday at her late home in Oakdale.

Mrs. PHILLIPS was a daughter of James MCCLEARY, and was born at
Hickory, where her father at one time carried on cabinet making. In
youngwomanhood, she was married to Fulton PHILLIPS, who died at Oakdale,
September 4, 1917. From the middle seventies to 1882, the family resided in
Canonsburg. One son, Delmont, publisher pf the Oakdale Times, survives.
Two grandchildren, Lieut. Lockhart PHILLIPS, Seventy-first Infantry,
stationed at Camp Meade, Md., and Mary, at home, also survive.



Mrs. Elizabeth THOMPSON MCBURNEY, widow of James MCBURNEY, died
at her home in Hickory Monday. She was aged 87. Funeral services in charge
of the Rev. Charles STUNKARD were held at the MCBURNEY home Wednesday at 2
o'clock. The interment was private in the Hickory cemetery.

Mrs. MCBURNEY was born in Chartiers township on the old THOMPSON
homestead, July 2, 1831; she was a daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth BELL
THOMPSON and was united in marriage with James MCBURNEY in 1871. H was a
well known veteran of the Civil war. Mrs. MCBURNEY had long been a member
of the Mt. Pleasant U. P. church at Hickory and one of its most active
members. She was a teacher in the Sunday school for more than 50 years,
having begun teaching in a class when the church was first organized in
1866. She continued teaching until she was compelled to give up her work
owing to her advanced age.

She is the last member of her family and is survived by one son,
Andrew T. MCBURNEY of Hickory.



Alexander MCCONNELL, a well-known and life-long resident of
Cecil township, died suddenly Wednesday afternoon while seated in his home
talking to a neighbor, J. F. MAWHINNEY. Mr. MCCONNELL was noticed to be
suffering; Mr. MAWHINNEY called members of the household, but by the time he
was laid down life was extinct.

Mr. MCCONNELL was in his 79th year, having been born November
16, 1840 in the home in which he died ... (portion missing, continues in

... by all who knew him. He was a life-long member of the
United Presbyterian Church, being first identified with the Robinson Run
Congregation, but in the latter years of his life he was a member of the
Venice Church. He was married February 3, 1881 to Mary J. MATTHEWS, who
died March 23, 1889. A son and two daughters survive; John W. and Eva, at
home, and Esther M., wife of James FRIEL, East Pittsburgh. A sister, Mrs.
J. R. GLADDEN resides in McDonald.

Funeral services were held at the MCCONNELL home at 2 o'clock on
Saturday afternoon. Interment was in the cemetery at Venice.
