According to a bio from the History of York County, he had at least one
child, James, for it says that Mr. Smith's tomb-stone was "erected by his
son James, in the yard of the English Presbyterian Chruch at York. This bio
is long on the "signer" and short on anyone else in the family, and the
above reference was the only one I found on family members...so, if I were
you I'd do some research myself on this family, rather that just take
someone else's word for things; in this case, it appears as if someone has
"told" you wrong.
( I've looked up his well, of 1806,and in it he leaves land, etc to his
"son James Smith".....so, apparently my Joseph Smith isn't his son, but
there sure was a James Smith.)
