I own the list, so I decide what's what. This isn't a vote situation. I
know some listowners run their lists like that but that doesn't work for
me. For the first several months after I started the list, I spent many
many hours every day answering mail from people who wanted to research
and did not have the time to plow through all the chit chat and jokes.
Some of them still have to pay for their time online and/or are limited
to a certain number of emails. In those cases, deleting doesn't work
since they've already paid for the download. So I made the decision to
create the MEMORIES list so anyone could chit chat, send jokes, poems
and whatever [as long as it's clean] to that list and this one became
strictly genealogy. As happened with this instance, that one poem
generated about 10 more emails to the list. I'll also get a lot of
private complaints from the digest people when that all hits the digest.
So, I've asked for cooperation and understanding about others' needs,
and you have a whole list available to use for all "other" than
genealogy. To subscribe to the MEMORIES list, send only the word
subscribe [all lower case] to

AND, anyone who doesn't like the way I run my lists is free to join
RootsWeb and start their own [or go to a free place and start one]. We
have almost 500 members, so I hope we don't end up with 500 lists for
Allegheny County :>
