Sandy,
Yeah, I know..WILLIAMS to research is so much fun!! Actually, my
generation, and the one before, of Williams descent cousins decided to make
it even more fun... they married SMITH & JONES!!
I had a great amount of luck, all because of a rather unique name (JEREMIAH
WILLIAMS, father of Nicholas Williams), and the notation of Cornwall, UK on
Nicholas' death certificate. I hired via the Internet, a gent in England
who specializes in looking up Cornwall records (England began a census in
the 1840's I think), and he found the birth records , marriage, etc. for my
Nicholas.
Then I took a flying leap of faith, and wrote to the church where he was
baptized (St. Feock's in St. Feock's, Cornwall, UK)...and letter 2 brought
an e-mail response by the current vicar. He had passed along my name/letter
to the TOWN HISTORIAN!! This gent did a lot of look-ups in the church
registers and wandered through the cemetery...et voila! I have WILLIAMS
back to 1700ish. Serendipity how some lines work out, and others are pure
brick walls!
Wish I could say that NICHOLAS had a sister MARY who emigrated with him,
but I can't. I do think he came here with someone, but can't prove it yet
(probably a brother named James). Good luck to you. Let me know if you
want that Cornwall researcher's name, URL etc.
