Annie,

Patton Twp. was originally part of Plum Twp. A petition was first made in
1807 to divide the township by the inhabitants of the upper portion of the
township. This was not approved until 1849. The earliest inhabitant of
Patton Twp. was a Martha Miers who patented land a tract of 360 acres on the
banks of Turtle Creek in 1769. I have never seen any reference to any
Patton families in the area early on and have no idea why it was called
Patton Twp. The Historic Pittsburgh site has some information in the Thomas
Cushing book The History of Allegheny County. The Monroeville Library has a
book by Margaret Russell called History of Monroeville. Neither book
mentions any Patton family or reason for the name.

The students in Patton Twp. went to Turtle Creek High School in the 1950's,
not sure about before then. I have my father's year book from 1951 and
would be happy to look up anyone in the senior class. There is no index and
they are the only class listed individually.
