In regard to Westmoreland County, there are listings in the county history &

The reason I couldn't find him in 1870 is because James and his father are
now in Franklin Twp, Westmoreland County.
Ditto 1880, James now 29 is married to Josephine.
Ditto 1900. Same wife, lots of kids. Still in Franklin Twp, WestMoCo.
Could NOT find him in the 1890 Veterans Schedules in Pennsylvania. BUT....a
broader search shows a James L. Summerill in New Jersey in the 1890 Vets
Scheds. ED52, page 1, Pilesgrove Salem Township, NJ. This guy was a private
in Co.A, 24th NJ; served 9 months. This implies he was living in NJ in June

1890. Did your guy always live in PA?
