Al,
It was right on Webster Ave., up the street from the Wm. Penn Hotel, Grant St. entrance
The school resembled a fortress, built in the 19th century, it
was a convent for Mercy Nuns also orphanage.
In 1950 Bishop Dearden sold it out from under the order to a firm that was to build
a tall office building. Originally it was to have been demolished within 3 months,
when they began with the wrecking ball they discovered the
walls were thicker than at first thought and it took much longer than anticipated.
The Terrace Village bus went right by there and the
first downtown stop was there.

Barb,
WHERE was St Mary's on Webster Ave? Between the Civic Arena mess
and the riots of 68 a lot of changes occurred on the Hill but I have
never heard of a St Mary's. Even though a saint, I don't think she
was tough enough for that neighborhood. It never was civilized until
you got passed Herron Ave.
