The Denny estate along with the Schenley estate were all part of the division of the great land holdings of James O Hara, who was probably the largest land owner in Allegheny County as well as in surrounding counties and states. O'Hara had two daughters --- the Denny line became the heirs. of the one daughter and Mary Schenley was the only heir of the other. The eventual division of estate of Elizabeth O'Hara Denny's among her many children takes up pages in the deeds books. Of course, the Denny family into which she married also had some significant land holdings but nothing in comparison to the prperties inherited from James O'Hara.
