Robert H. Crow

Dairy farmer fought in battle of Iowa Jima

Robert H. Crow, 74, of Graysville R.D.1, died at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, August 12, 1997, in Greene County Memorial
Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born February 20, 1923, in Richhill Township, a son of
Sarah Helen Harvey Crow, with whom he made his home, and
the late Harold Martin Crow.

Mr. Crow was a sixth generation descendant of the Jacob Crow
family and had lived on the family farm all his life.

He was a member of the Crabapple Community Church and the
Fayette County Fiddlers Association.

He was a former member of the DAV Post 123 in Waynesburg.

Mr. Crow was a former employee of Triangle Steel in Glen
Dale, W.Va., and had also been employed by Columbia Gas
Co. as an oil and gas well driller.

He also did custom farming in the Greene County area and was
self-employed as a dairy farmer all his life, selling his milk to
Carnation Milk Co. and United Dairy.

He was a veteran of World War II serving as a corporal with the
U.S. Marine Corps as a gunner and participated in the battle of
Iwo Jima.

Mr. Crow was a 1941 graduate of Triadelphia High School,
Triadelphia, W.Va.

His wife, Leona May Ansell Crow, whom he married November
26, 1961, died October 7, 1992.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two daughters, Tina
Green of Graysville R.D.1 and Sue Crow of Holbrook R.D.1;
one son, Robert M. Crow of West Finley R.D.2; three
grandchildren, Elizabeth Crow Green, Nancy Christine Green
and Michael Martin Crow; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his father, is one sister, Helene Crow
Johnson.
