Hi Mickey! Thank you so much for all of your great advice! I just went out
today and bought some genealogy books and software (I quickly realized I
needed some extra help). Luckily, I am a graduate student in English as
well, so I know all about the importance of citing sources :)--that has been
drilled into my head (almost a reflex by now), and already I have found
conflicting trees. About Stitt cemetery, my mother and I went today and it
took several hours to find it (no one seemed to know for sure where it was
and we did a lot of driving), but it was definitely worthwhile. Turns out
it was just off of Dime road on this little dirt road. What a hunt--but,
Gosh, we had a blast!

So nice of you to write and make me feel welcome. Thank you for all of your
great advice and help! I feel like Luke Skywalker and all of you on this
list are my Obi Wan Kenobi! I am a beginning apprentice and have just
started my training! :)

Joy,

Welcome to the list and to the genealogy search. I believe you were at
the McKean Library on Thursday about 3:00. I was one of the other
researchers there.

You will find that this "hobby" can be quite addicting, but o, so much
fun!

Since you are just starting out, I would like to suggest to you that
you cite your sources.

Just as important as gathering all of this new information is, it is
that important that you know where the information came from,
especially if conflicting information occurs, and it will.

Also a good genealogy data base program on the computer can be very
helpful, saving you lots of time down the road.

Feel free to ask us on the list for help and guidance anytime. We are
all a great bunch of people.

Hope you found that cemetery that you were talking about, right before
I left.

Mickey
