Subject: [PAARMSTR-L] Local transportation and search ideas?

Hi Listers,

In a few weeks my husband will be working in Pittsburgh for a few days and
as I have loads of ancestors in Armstrong, Indiana, Franklin and Huntingdon
counties, etc., I would like to know if there is a daily bus or local bus
service that serves in these areas. We were in this part of
PA several years ago, but I don't remember how spread out the communities
were or if there was any bus service. Possibly I could come by bus to some
of the communities to do research and then he could pick me up in the
evenings. Is this a feasible plan?

I do drive, but he relates that the traffic in the Pittsburgh area will
terrify me, which is probably true. He will try to take some days off to
go and do research with me, but if that is not possible, I would like to
know what is available also in Pittsburgh itself. Is that where the
Archives are?
Is anything available at the University of Pittsburgh, which I think has a
campus in Indiana Borough?

I have collected quite a bit over the years and in particular over the
internet and from the census records, but of course there are many gaps and
mysteries. This will become evident to local people when I say that I have
multiple connections to the Sharp families and Ralston families and most of
their collateral families. Also, Bleakney, George, Carnahan, Daughtery,
Mitchell, Moorhead, Montgomery, McCreight, McCracken, Taylor, Carter,
Sutton, Raffensperger/Raffensberger, Blose, Seanor, McCarthy, Russell,
Forrest, Doney?, Donaldson/Donelson.

I would the old newspaper files be in the Historical Societies or otherwise?
And where is the Historical Society

I realize that this will be a bit confusing and I will be cross-posting to
Indiana County as my ancestors pretty much straddled the county line, living
in both counties.

I am grateful for any help or suggestions offered. As I get this tangled
web untangled I will be happy to share what I have validated. But I have
not posted it yet as there has been so much mis-information out there and I
want to make sure it is accurate. Of course, my rellies probably didn't
have to keep marrying into each other's families either!! Must have been
true and sincere love, as I haven't found a divorce yet and not too many
remarriages after death of one spouse.

Thanks for any help or ideas. I am terribly grateful to Carla for the
Treasures of the Past Site and all that has been put on the web and shared
by so many of you. Perhaps I will finally get to meet some of you. Have a
great week and good searching!
