Good morning --

Thanks for this posting of JOHN MITCHELL born in Bedford County, PA. By any
chance is there a posting for a BAZIL DERRY, also born in Bedford County in
1786?

I have a JOHN MITCHELL who married a CATHERINA DERRY (Derri). There is a
strong probability that CATHERINA is a sister to BAZIL. He has been a
difficult man to trace. BAZIL married a MARY POLLY SHULTZ (Shulze) who was
also born in Bedford County in 1789. John was a/k/a JOHN ADAM MITCHELL and
prior to that known as ADAM MUSHLER (Muschler, Murcle).

All the settled in Georges Township, Fayette County, PA where they died in
their 90's. They certainly were hearty folk! Thank you for any assistance
possible!

On the list of Taxable Inhabitants of 1776 There is a John Mitchell listed
as an owner of uncultivated land in Hopewell Twp. There is also listed as
owners of cultivated land the following: Andrew Mitchell, Dublin Twp.;
Andrew Mitchell, Cumberland Valley Twp.; James Mitchell, Bethel Twp.; James
Mitchell, Bethel Twp.; John Mitchell, Barree Twp.; John Mitchell, Turkeyfoot
Twp.

On the 1779 Tax List there is a James Mitchel: 50 acres (400); 4 horses
(250); 3 cows (105) and John Mitchel: 50 acres (200); 2 horses (200); 3 cows
(100).

On a jury selected for the July term in 1773 was a John Mitchell, Case #21,
Holliday vs. Jones

I do not see any Derry references. Perhaps someone on the list can help.
