Evening Carol,
I wish to add somewhat to your comment about the Scotch-Irish as
reported in Rupp's book.
I can establish that the German population of what was orignally
Bedford county was just as large as the English. I have a digitized record
from the court house clearly demonstrating that there were German
Baptist/Dunker/Brethren in Morrisons Cove by at least 1770. I base this upon
the 1775 date of the document which mentions that in what is now Roaring
Spring there was several mills that were owned by Daniel Ulhrich/Ullrey. The
names on this document are evenly split between you Englishers and us Dutch.
;-)
Also I am aware of a Brethren group in what is now Brother's Valley as
early as 1765 or so established by Henry Roth(Rhoads) who was a gunsmith and
still has descendants living to this day. Also that in Berlin, Somerset
county that there was, according to the Oldfather Genealogy, a group of
Luthern Germans by at least 1784 and probably much earlier as I have tax
records for that area extending back to 1773.
