Thankyou to everyone for the info. I had been told the same story by a
volunteer, Mr. Robert Hauser, at the Historical Library in Bedford
about the stones being thrown into a sinkhole. On a trip to Bedford in
2000 I got to see the 5 stones that were saved at the Woods Union
Methodist Cemetary that is out near Rainsburg. Although they were
barely readable one did have the name Eli (?---) Heaney 1747 -
1781 on it. This is most likely an ancestor although I have not come
across any reference to anyone by that name in my search. However, I
do have a couple of "grandmothers" who we do not have names for.
Marybe this is one of them - an Elizabeth?!?
I do not seem to find the names on the other 4 stones. They are rugged
field stone type markers and almost impossible to read. When they
were relocated to the Woods cemetary the people involved had small
metal name plates placed with each stone. As I indicated I feel the
one may be my ancestor. I will be glad to search through my notes if
anyone else has any interest in knowing who the others might be.
Thankyou to all who responded.
