Riddlesburg.
November, 15, 1897.--Mr. George Batzell moved into one of the houses in
Minor's last week.
Dr. A. H. King is attending court this week.
H. H. Brumbaugh was on the sick list all last week, but is out among the
teachers again.
Mr. King, of Maryland, and Mr. Montgomery, of Ohio, registered at the
Ritchey House last week. They were canvassing our school directors for the
purpose of selling them several sets of mathematical books. The directors
are pleased with the books but not the price.
Mr. James Boor lost a valuable horse on Monday morning.
Mrs. C. W. Fox, of Roaring Springs, Pa., who has been visiting her
sister, Mrs. H. H. Brumbaugh, for several days, returned home on Wednesday.
Mrs. Brumbaugh and Miss Bessie Ritchey went with her, and will visit friends
at Baker's Summit, Martinsburg, Sharpsburg, Roaring Springs and Altoona.
The Defiance Cornet Band is serenading our town tonight. We are lovers
of music. Come again, you are always welcome.
The Riddlesburg schools will hold a festival in the Reading room Saturday
evening, the 20th inst. Everybody is invited to come out and hear what the
children have to say.

Kearney.
We overheard a man remark the other day that is was as easy to rain now
as it was the for sun to shine several months ago.
Our Sunday School, which was started recently, is progressing finely
under the superintendency of John Chamberlain.
Edward Leightly, who has been working in West Virginia, has returned
again looking hale and hearty, but he says West Virginia is a wild place.
Quite a number of our people are attending Court this week.
Caleb Whited and Squire Estep, of Six Mile Run, have been visiting this
vicinity collecting state, county and school taxes.
Preaching Sunday in the school house by Rev. Tallhelm. A large
attendance is expected as there is to be an extra interesting sermon, and
the congregation is going to present him with an overcoat in place of one
which he lost in this vicinity some time ago.
Our miners are raising a donation for Samuel Graffius, of Sandy Run, who
has boon sick for some time and is in needy circumstances. KEARNEY X RAY.

Riddlesburg.
November 10.--Several of the teachers of Broad Top township left Riddlesburg
Saturday morning. Miss Maud Thomas and Mr. Hammond Prosser spent the day in
Huntingdon, Miss Lillian Williams spent the day in Everett, Mr. Draper Smith
and Mr. Sumner Mock spent the day in Bedford.
Mr. Calvin Diehl, wife and little niece, Nellie, from Bedford, paid a
visit to Mrs. Diehl's brother, Mr. James Boor, postmaster at this place.
Mrs. Mitcheltree, wife of foundryman Mitcheltree, who ha been visiting
friends in Ohio, returned home Saturday evening.
The Methodist Episcopal church of this place has organized a choir under
the management of Prof. H. H. Brumbaugh.
Mr. Dolph Thomas, of Washington, D. C., who has been at home visiting for
the past few weeks, has returned to Washington and taken with him his
daughter, Gay, who will remain with him some time.
Mrs. Fox, wife of Dr. Fox, of Roaring Springs, is visiting her sister,
Mrs. H. H. Brumbaugh, of this place. Mrs. Brumbaugh, Mrs. Fox, and Miss
Bess Ritchey spent time between trains in Saxton Saturday evening.
Mr. Elmer Bowers, of Hopewell, spent Friday evening with friends at
Riddlesburg.
Prof. Potts, of Bedford, stopped off with Prof. Brumbaugh on his way to
Huntingdon, where he will attend Institute.
Mr. Clayton Thomas, who has been working at Mt. Savage, Maryland, for
some time past, met with a sad accident on last Friday. His foot caught
between the bumpers of the cars and his ankle was crushed in two places.
Rev. Swartz expects to begin his protracted meeting Monday evening. We
wish he may be successul. (sic) GLEANER.
